ZUNA Institute Releases Groundbreaking Report on Black Lesbians

Gil Gerald & Associates, Inc. congratulates the ZUNA Institute for the release, this past July, of their groundbreaking report, Black Lesbians Matter: An Examination of the Unique Experiences, Perspectives, and Priorities of the Black Lesbian Community. This report is a ‘must read’ that gives voice to a community made invisible within the LGBTQ movement as well as in the broader society.


New Website for Gil Gerald & Associates, Inc.

Gil Gerald & Associates, Inc. launched its new website at  The website will be particularly helpful to keep health and mental health professionals in California informed of our schedule of Continuing Education Courses we are offering live and online, starting September 10th.


Lavender Seniors of the East Bay and Gil Gerald & Associates are Partnering to Address Mental Health in LGBT Seniors

Lavender Seniors of the East Bay has been notified that the Alameda County Department of Behavioral Health Services  (ACBHS) has funded their proposal for a ten month project providing training and technical assistance to two health and human service agencies as well as one regional training in which licensed attendees will receive continuing education credits.  The goal of the project is to prevent serious mental health issues among LGBT seniors in Alameda County.  Our role as a subcontractor will be to evaluate the project and to build capacity within Lavender Seniors to continue to employ the training and technical assistance model developed and tested with the funding they are receiving this year from ACBHS.  Michelle Eliason, Ph.D., Associate Professor at the School of Public Health at San Francisco State, will be leading the Gil Gerald & Associates, Inc. research and evaluation team for this project.


Gil Gerald & Associates, Inc. is Winding Up its Three-year Contract with ADP

On September 30th, 2010, Gil Gerald & Associates, Inc. will successfully complete a three-year contract with the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP). The contract supports technical assistance and training services we offer under our LGBT-TRISTAR services. The contract called for delivering 276 days of technical assistance services throughout California in each of the three years of the contract. Our most recent report indicates that we are on target for meeting this goal for this third and last year of the contract. It is unclear if and when ADP will be issuing a request for proposals (RFP) to continue these services. We will keep you posted about developments and we look forward to hopefully being able to continue to offer these services.


New Series of Workshops Announced

Gil Gerald & Associates, Inc. will be inaugurating fee-based training for health, mental health and alcohol and other drug prevention, treatment and recovery support professionals. These training services will be offered as monthly training workshops in each of three California metropolitan areas: San Francisco Bay Area cities, Los Angeles and Orange Counties, and the San Diego area.  The training workshops will debut on September 10th and 24th in Oakland. On these dates we will offer a six hour course for mental health professionals who upon completion of the course will receive a certificate recognized by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences for six continuing education units.
